Not the shrooms from the 1960's!
Today I want to share with you a treat that I found at the grocery store this week.
Of course I went shopping hungry and had to redirect my steps away from the bakery more than once. I then found quite by accident something new, mushroom jerkey!
I have been substituting mushrooms on many occasions for red meat for many years, but I never thought of drying the veggie in a jerkey form. Until this week.
First, I looked at the ingredients; crimini and portebella mushrooms, maple syrup, agave syrup, ACV (apple cider vinegar), salt, pepper, paprika, tara gum (a natural organic ingredient from spinosa seeds), and sunflower oil.
Ok, the worst ingredient is the sunflower oil, but it happens to be the last in order so it has the smallest amount in the product.
The taste....not bad! I picked up the hickory smoked variety and true to the packaging, it was smokey and quite a chewy texture.
If you like the kind of food that is chewy and earthy, this is an excellent alternative to animal products.
The serving size is 24 grams, has 60 calories, 20% the RDA (recommended daily allowence) of sodium, and 5 grams of protein.
This is a lot of work for your mouth, as one little piece kept me off the phone for 10 minutes!
If you are looking for something new, different and savory, try mushroom jerkey i got home and googled my new treat found there are several options available for this vegan the one picked up is from eat change out of maryland.>
Order some today eat the change and let me know what you think!
